Gran Turismo 5 Delay Due to Last-Minute Executive Decision

After news broke yesterday that the prodigal racing simulator, Gran Turismo 5 would be delayed yet again, the general consensus from fans was displeasure. Even the most die-hard of GT enthusiasts are tired of waiting, and even more tired of watching the upcoming title get delayed, over and over again. Taku Imasaki, during a phone interview with The New York Times outlined the reason for the delay of the title, and added that Sony Computer Entertainment America is "not happy."

According to Imasaki, the decision to delay the title even further was a last-minute decision made by the executive team, which includes the creator of Gran Turismo, Kazonuri Yamauchi, for the game. The developer of the title, Polyphony Digital, believed that they had a good date chosen for the release, but it looks like the higher-ups at the company decided against it. What's worse, though, was that the decision was literally made yesterday, seemingly out of the blue. Imasaki added that, "We're not happy over here."

And, as we reported yesterday, Sony and Polyphony Digital are now aiming for a holiday season release of the title, hopefully putting it on retail shelves before the first of the new year. However, it looks like even that is still up in the air. Imasaki points out that Sony is now "shooting for it to be out by the holidays. You won't see too much more delay." That last bit, regarding the fact that fans may not see "too much more delay," is the most disheartening, as it sounds like the developer has no idea when the game will release.
