GoPro HeroCast live-broadcast unit is the smallest transmitter around

GoPro cameras have been recording video for sports fans in the professional and amateur ranks for a long time and are some of the smallest and most robust cameras on the market. Few other camera units can withstand things like crashes in motorsports to record footage that shows us what drivers see from their prospective.

These little cameras have been used in professional production enviroenmtns as well. GoPro has unveiled a new product that is aimed directly at the professional environment called the HeroCast. HeroCast is the smallest and lightest professional live-broadcast transmitter on the market according to GoPro.

HeroCast integrates with GoPro cameras and works with the entire ecosystem of mounts out there for the cameras. It is able to transmit HD video at 1080/60fps and 720/60fps using H.264 encoding. HeroCast has been used by the NHL and ESPN X Games for live POV broadcasts.

Since the HeroCast is aimed at the professional broadcast environment, you might expect that it's not cheap. Each HeroCast unit sells for $7,500 and comes in two versions. The normal HeroCast is a separate unit from the camera for mounting and accessibility. A HeroCast BacPac is available for the same price that integrates the camera, transmitter, housing, and BacPac into one unit and is waterproof.
