I believe on XDA forums, the most traveled forum for Android, they have a poll showing about 200ish people having issues, most of which have a <.1mm screen gab. Considering there have likely been thousands of this device sold. It probably still falls under the normal amount of issues experienced with a brand new device.

How many id a “lot” and out of how many sold. People who go on forums tend to go on there to complain. I know eight people (in real life) who have a Nexus 7 as of right now, and none have reported any defects. I even checked some of their units to see if the screen was loose. Plus, all these 8 people are in Singapore and ordered via a forwarding company, so they were taking at a greater risk with regards to warranty coverage and RMA policy.

Actually if you hit up some of the Android forums they are a lot of people complaining about defects. I doubt they are journals or Apple-centric writers.

It’s a very low number, as far as I can tell.
Most of the “news” is just a bunch of journos or Apple-centric writers trying to snowball the situation to something it’s not, as far as I’ve noticed.

The defect numbers are probably a very low percentage. There is always some production issues but quality controls usually keeps the defect numbers low.

16GB. Just call the stores and ask if they have inventory. I got mine at the San Mateo store. As of this afternoon, they sold their last two.

I have a 10 inch android tablet and just got the Nexus for my kid. BOTH tablets beat the Ipad in so many more ways then just price. I am baffled as to why it is a status symbol to buy devices like the ipad and kindle fire where the companies act as if they own your device even after purchase.

I wonder how much of an impact the reported returns for defects has on this. Demand has to go up when there are lots of returns for replacements, and it would be smart to slow/stop production to get the problems in quality control resolved.

Nexus 7′s size, cheap prize, feel, look and jelly bean make it a must have. I don’t about you guys, but I completely stopped using my ipad and only use my Nexus 7. Apple better look out because Nexus 7 is the tablet to beat.

Those aren’t the people buying cheap tablets such as nexus 7 or kindle fire. The people that buy these products are the people that want an iPad/tablet for a cheaper price or just want the latest android software. No one sit downs and says “i want a 10 inch, fully-functional graphically intensive tablet.” -_- the general public that knows about products such as this see a tablet (maybe even an iPad clone to some) and say wow its only $199.
