According to +GoogleTV, Q will work WITH Google TV. I think they just did a bad job of explaining it. We will see more in the coming weeks.

You don’t need to get a whole new TV for google TV. They sell set top boxes, two of which are being released next month.

PlayBook $199 and it can push 1080p to my HDTV while I use it for other things. . . I think Google missed the mark if you are correct.

I agree. . . this device, at least as it has thus far been demonstrated, makes NO sense at all — it’s like Google wants to now fragment hardware — let’s break Google TV up into smaller bits, one for apps, one for Google Play, etc. . . Just bizarre IMO.

This could have been a great all-in-once wireless home control systems. Right now it looks like a gimped peace of expensive hardware for developers to hack on. . . nothing consumers should even consider as they get more with Google TV and will only miss the “social media” aspect of this device.

I’m confounded by it. . .

What doesn’t make sense is instead of the Q they could just use the Google TV for these things… I think the OP was right about them making a mistake with the Q and not just revamping the TV

I think it’s 50/50. It could fail like you say, but on the other hand, it doesn’t force people to get a whole new TV, so it could succeed. Think Nintendo Wii release when SD TVs were still commonplace. Plus, it’s probably easier and less risky to hack a set-top sphere than it is a TV, I would think.

Is it just me of does the Q resemble those squid-like machines from the Matrix films?

I believe the nexus Q was meant to be sold together with the nexus 7 to compete against the ipad as a bundle…

You could get an ipad for $499 Or a nexus 7 plus nexus Q for…. $499!

In my opinion this whole “designed and made in the USA” was to justify and meet the asking price of the ipad… You could say they could have made the nexus 7 $299 and the nexus Q $199 but then how would they compete (price wise) with the kindle touch?

Then again this is what I think…

I’m sure Nexus Q will work just fine; what goes on with the reviews of this site. I would not be surprised to see Nexus Q be the beginning point for reintroducing google TV? You can already play music in more than one room; you can directly stream movies, youtube videos, etc. Will you not be surprised to see one unit of similar size, cable of being used on two different TVs as Google TV? Please tell me you see this possibility; this is more than just a social media streaming device as they have called it; it opens up all sorts of possibilities for Google TV. You touched on the possiblities of the hardware; but this is an obvious foundation on what they are going to do with Google TV; I would not be surprised to see google TV follow this line in innovation that they have begun with Nexus Q.

I spent a lot of last night watching the keynote wondering exactly what the Nexus Q was.. and then rather stupidly figured its key feature would be a really stupidly low price of $50 or something – to totally destroy Apple TV. Then they announced the price and… well, game over.
