You're right about that but it 's Apple that is trying to aviod competition with FRIVOLOUS lawsuits. I 'm talking about trying to monopolize the phone and tablet market using ridiculous claims such as ownership of things such as: rounded corners, flat surface, black bezel, the shape of a rectangle and thin designs. Besides these things Apple, in the same court case also suggested that the competition should have to make their products with a thick casing, "cluttered" UI, the surface of the device can not appear " dark" when turned off and the edges of the device should have to be made with (useless) "adorments".
These demands are clearly ment to prevent competition and would with out a doubt allow Apple to form a monopoly as competing companys would not be able to produce a product that could realistically sell under these kinds of restrictions. You can argue until you're blue in the face that if Apple has so called patents that allow for said restrictions then so be it. Thats a foolish perspective as these patents fail when challanged in court and shoûld never have been used to sue with in the first place. Manipulating the a broken patent system to get said patents is one thing, to actually try and use them is what makes Apple the a-holes of the tech world that they are today. As far as the other 10% of Apples claims that refer to real tech, of that i have no complaints. Same go's for MS or any other company suing for licensing fees for their IP. I can't say i like the patent trolling thing but atleast it's not preventing competitipn the way Apple is trying to do.

Could not agree more. I'd love to see Apple keep this up until their smartphone market share is as minimal and unimportant as Mac is compared to Windows. I'd considered an iPhone for a long time and couldn't be happier that I decided against it and went with an Android instead. Just picked up a Droid RAZR and loving it like you cannot imagine. Get out there and fight for consumer's money but don't cry like a spoiled child when the market decides against you and your overpriced crap.

Well, I couldn't agree more. I had a lot of respect for Apple, although I never really considered them inventors or ground-breaking in cutting edge tech. But, their products were well thought-out, beautifully designed and ingeniously marketed. I owned a few Apple products (3 generations of the iPod classic, a MacBook) but then started veering away by the time the iPhone came along in 2007. Much of the reason was overpricing and a lack of freedom. Apple weren't in the mobile business back then and were a niche company that made very good products (they still do). but something got into them after the arrival of Android and when it started to eat into the market share at the rate of a forest fire.

Instead of taking the competition head-on, they started resorting to cheap mud-slinging and (mostly bogus) courtroom antics. In the past year or so, I've lost all respect for Apple and am now at a point where I absolutely despise them.
I still own a Mac Pro for my studio work but that's about it. I've been pretty content with Android and pretty happy with how its evolving. Even if the iPhone or the iPad were THE best products in their categories, I still wouldn't buy one now. I just cannot see myself endorsing a company that engages in such anti-competitive behaviour and has all but screwed with people's heads for too long now. Its just pathetic to see how a majority of Apple fanatics follow it almost blindly, lacking any educated reasoning or logic. Sometimes, they even disregard facts and just say in denial. There are similar fanatics on the Android side, (just like there were back in the days of the Win/Mac wars) but, the majority on the Apple side is way too large and the trend is very worrying and disturbing.
This industry needs great companies like Apple but not at the cost of healthy competition.

I totally agree with this perspective. The more Apple sues the more of their patents get invalidated. In the end Apple will be left with only a small fraction of the patents they want to use to try and prevent competition. Sooner or later Apple will be forced to face the competition out side of the courtroom and that competition will be able to produce products as they see fit with only minor, if any changes to what they make now. This so called 'win' for Apple sums up the total failure that their campain to monopolize the tablet and phone market really is. They did manage to rally the troops/sheep but from what i've been reading on some of the blogs even some ifans have turned against them now. There are many people who would love to own the great products that Apple makes, myself included but we can't bring ourselves to support a company that would employ such despicable tactics in an effort to rob the consumer of choice. Apple needs to stop with this petty bullshit now, save face and regain lost respect.
