Vlingo actually works pretty well. Siri is not new, it may be better, idk, never used it, nor have I seen anyone actually do anything useful with it (maybe someone is, I just haven’t seen it).

First off, please quote me correctly if you’re going to “quote me”. Secondly, I think Android voice is an excellent example of a technology/product that Google built from the ground up. Remember 1800 GOOG 411? That was released back in 2007 and its whole function was to farm voice samples from people so that Google could refine their voice technology they were working on (which would later become Android Voice). That was before Android was even a product and even before ios had 3rd party apps. It’s even before Siri existed. That should give you an idea about how long they have been working on this. Thirdly, where did you ever get the idea that Google copied search from Yahoo? When Google was formed it was formed based around an algorithm that they had created that did search in a completely different way than it had ever been done before (pagerank). In fact it was so much better then what was out there at the time, that Yahoo (the 800 hundred pound gorilla at the time) paid Google during their early years for the right to use their search results instead of their own. So again, another product that Google built from the ground up.

Cloud.. pure and simple.. Google voice commands (which were built in to the OS years ago) do not connect to a cloud server to ask the question. It works for what you need it too… Adding appts. , making phone calls, setting schedules, reminding you of times, etc..etc..etc..
Apple had to buy something or steal something to simple keep up with the innovation of Google. This is par for the course… nobody is trying to keep up with apple, except Microsoft. Google is far ahead of the game. As it stands Google OS phones are activated 3x more than iPhones today.

I asked iPhone 4S about its sexual orientation, and it told me it was a fruit. So, i dont know exactly what that means, but it knows something we dont, maybe.

Google will come out with a better technology, like with every other aspect of their OS that triumphs over any of the competition. Googles voice services were available years before iOS implemented it with Siri, and currently, still recognizes speech better than Siri hands down. As for the added AI of Siri, its very limited, and somewhat childish for most of its applications. Google will make it more business savvy, and more programmable, as to be expected. Apple products are just copies of others or purchased outright from other companies. Nothing new and exciting there. Google OS will always be ahead of the curve as long as Apple continues to employ tactics appealing to simple minded people and the elderly.

Shut up. I use to use Android voice control and Vlingo is better by far. Siri is a different breed of voice control and that is why Google wants to compete with it. Your just a idiot/iHater if you think Siri is useless. I use it everyday, it makes things just that much easier. You obviously don’t use Siri and understand the benefits of having an A.I. on your phone. Maybe once Google comes out with its own version you will understand.

Did you even read the article? The part about having social integration built in from the ground up is definitely not something Apple has already announced.

I suppose it’s possible that Apple is already working to get Ping integrated, but would anyone even care?

Googles voice recognition is and always has been more accurate and useful. And androids been around years before IOS. And its always been avaiable on ALL android devices. Not to mention that RETARD Apple fan boys/girls dont even realize that SIRI was availible in the APP STORE before the 4s ame out but after it was integrated into IOS 5 on the 4s APPLE pulled it from the app store. Also the down side of SIRI having a bit of a potty mouth. Who the hell want there phone to talk back to the anyway. If I wanted that Id just download cleverbot. Stop comparing APPLEs shitty siri to better things. There isnt an android user I know that wants SIRI were a differnt and much smarter breed of smartphone.

GALAXY NEXUS beat iPhone 4s in all my commands especially when I said navigate me to disneyland with free turn by turn GPS by NEXUS and all is FREE – out of the box experience vs my iPhone 4s (jailbroken)…

how are they copying apple again? android has had voice search for years. plus i recently watched an interview from two years ago from the head of voice technology at google and he hinted at a siri type software being developed back then, that is before apple had had purchased siri and hired nauce (dragon dictation and dragon go developers) to incorporate it into ios. Plus you should look at what apple has stolen, notification bar is just one that comes to mind. And the reason google cares so much about its ads is because since android is open sourced, the software is free for manufacturers and therefore makes little of the actual sales of the devices

It’s silly that people are arguing/fighting over witch is better. Siri is a gimmick in my opinion and has the potential to remove a lot of critical thinking in a user. (Possibly something Apple would like?) Don’t let a brand define who you are. Branding is for cows.

I have a iPhone 4s jailbroken.
I can tell Siri to turn Wifi or open any app and she will do it.

But google assistant understands me a whole lote better than Siri
I’m from Georgia so I do sound country
Android understands everything I say natural to we’re Siri I have to Chang my voice.

In response to #1
1) There is no JAVA on android, just that you program in the same syntax (it’s down to like 4 claims in court now)
2) you really can’t “steal” Linux.
3) How else would you do a touch UI on that sided device?

right, gmail is a copy of “squirrelmail”, but it does it’s job 800x better. much like google web search is a copy of yahoo, that does it’s job 800x better.

Do I have to leave the GPS on for this to work or does it work by cell tower? I keep the GPS off most of the time as I like having more than a 3 hour battery. If it is cell tower info, that is very cool, and I’d love that feature on my phone.

At the same time, I’m wanting my phone to allow others (that I have allowed) to add things to my reminders, like “pick up bread, milk and eggs on your way home” and then have my phone know that 2 exits up is a grocery store, and remind me that I need to get off and buy those. I want to do that with as little setup as possible, and with a flexible grocery store location as I tend to take one of several routes home. I don’t want to define a grocery store, as that may not be the best choice all the time.

then please name any Google product that resulted from original Google invention.
To get you started, how about these:..
1) Android — byproduct of stolen and borrowed codes (Oracle java code, Linux, Apple iPhone UI/concept, etc)
2) Google music — snapped up a music start-up
3) Google search — copied from Yahoo

I have NOT SEEN A SINGLE PERSON TALKING TO THEIR PHONE out in the wild.

Am I the only one who thinks that Siri and Assistant and whatever are very much niche products that do not deserve any where near this amount of attention? Essentially this was the only new feature to the iPhone4S and it looks like most people use it a few times and forget about it.

I can yell at my GalaxyS2 and it seems to work alright, but I feel stupid doing so and it is not really any easier than tapping the screen a few times.

Maybe when they can cram real AI into your phone this will be cool, but when all they are doing is sending your request to a server somewhere and returning largely useless responses this is a waste.

Google voice works beautifully. It just doesn’t talk back and the commands are more focused instead of say asking siri for help with a restaurant. But with the quick search of the Google search incorporated with a voice activated question. Android does have the ability to make a better than siri assistant. My gf has siri and the only thing I like is that she can ask it real quick to wake her up from a nap. She doesn’t even use it for anything else. I wish I was more familiar with the non intergrated version, I heard siri had much more knowledgable results.
