I have an Apple TV and a Google TV (logitech revue) and I have to say, I hate the revue and love the AppleTV. I do wish both would bring apps, and I still only use the Google TV in my bedroom for netflix only.

I think both platforms could be enhanced with apps, but Apple’s platform is so much smoother and easier to use.

I very rarely visit slashgear, but if this is the quality of the articles I’ll probably never visit this site again. You say Google TV is dead in the water because of a lack of apps even though the Apple TV has been “app-less” since it’s existence.

Rotten Apple, you should read the book, ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’, and then just be a bit calmer. I’m sure someone you know and respect uses an Apple computer and has good reason. The whole world isn’t going to switch to linux/android because in the end, their time has value.

Apple products are just stupid status symbol items for the simple idiots that don’t know anything about real technology. They don’t come up up with any original ideas. They just copy everything and put a stylish interface (aka. GAY interface) on their products. Google is on the right track with their Google TV. No one has come out with anything better yet so support them because you won’t get anything worth while coming from the rotten Apple.

I own multiple Apple TVs and Google TVs. I only use the Google TVs now and have have added it as the standard box on all TVs in the house.

As a simple interface to watch TV, access internet, and a variety of other tasks I find it a perfect solution.

I’m getting sick of seeing this in the search results for Google TV. I have a Sony Google TV and love it. Just because you don’t like the product does not mean others won’t. I think its a great concept.. it’s doing things I never thought my TV could do. It’s a seamless experience. The author is correct, the only complain is how long it is taking them to get Android Market on it. Once it does, I know it will take off like Android did. @ Yo: I agreed with keyboard issue and sometimes I hit buttons and it make TV do different stuff but never had any problem getting back where I was. Have little problem with the media player, I play videos from hard drive but when I fast forward it forward for 25 seconds at one click which is different then other but not huge deal, it’s in beta and Logitech will make it better.
Other then that it’s working great so far. One feature I like is keyboard is not infrared I think it’s radio and now I have my Dish DVR and logitech revue on the back of the TV and I can control TV, Dish and Revue with one keyboard and only TV is visible.
I would suggest that check your updates.

1.From the Google TV home screen, go to Applications > Settings > About.
2.Scroll down to Build Number. If your Logitech Revue has received the update, the number will end in “b42732.”

Ha. Apple TV with either the Plex client or XBMC is a media streamer on steroids. Google TV is a hacked together “proof of concept” that is not ready for prime time. Google TV 3 Might be ok – until then, just a big hunk of plastic keyboard. If you really want that kind of experience, get a Boxee Box. Everything Google TV and much, much more.

Fyi – so far I’m able to stream about 60% of the Apple store video apps like CNN, Drive-In movies etc. directly to the Apple TV. With Ios 4.3, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that Hulu Plus works too…

I have had Google TV (via Logitech device) since November 2010. It was and still is extremely clunky to the point that I dread touching the keyboard any more. I could name dozens of nagging little problems. OK, here are a few.

>It is hard just to handle the keyboard without touching a key that knocks the movie that is playing for a loop, and takes several minutes to get going again.
>There is a pause button that I would like to use to go grab a drink, talk about something that just happened, etc. but half the time in the dark I will accidently touch the reverse button, which knocks the movie into buffer mode and takes a few minutes to get it going again.
>Forward and reverse search sweep scenes too fast to be able to absorb, it is very hard to stop it anywhere near the desired point and then while buffering there is no way to interrupt and improve the selection.
>Speaking of which, the keyboard is not lit so is not usable in a dark room with just the TV playing. I want to install an LED book light.
>Normally I navigate through Google TV using the “D” key with the center button to select. When browsing, all of a sudden the center button doesn’t work any more, and I have to use the bar under the touch pad.
>There are all sorts of similar situations where keys working in one place don’t work in another.
>Despite a terrific keyboard, the Netflix app (after an upgrade) is no better than what you get on a Wii, and I can’t search on anything besides a title – not directors or actors for example. I can plod through a genre if Netflix on its own decides to show it to me. We end up going to the computer to do any serious searching or queue management.

Probably a good idea but the execution has been vastly below expectations. People say “just wait for updates” and I am still waiting. I am no fanboy at all but think Steve Jobs could take a dump and do a better job than this.

I’ve checked both Google TV and Apple TV. Google TV wins on every issue, easy integration with all my other media, easy operation through a wireless keyboard instead of another remote looking controller. And you can surf the net effortlessly.

There is only ONE thing keeping Google TV from owning the media hub in the home. The fact that network TV weasels have blocked mobile devices running chrome from streaming TV shows that you could watch in a browser on your PC. Apps will come. They are slated to come in a few months. The late October release of Google TV was just to get some hardware on the market before the holiday season. Once Google kicks those network numb skulls in the butt EVERYONE who has a brain cell left in their head will tell the cable companies to take a hike as they march down and buy Google TV boxes. Apple TV is a joke. It’s a gatekeeper for media you already own or have downloaded. Once Chrome OS and the hardware made for it launches Apple and Microsoft can go sit with the network weasels too. Just watch.

I’m an avid apple user – i have all their stuff and pay close attention to their offerings. But google TV is a better piece of technology than apple TV for one fundamental reason: its location. Google TV sits IN LINE between your media system and its output device. Apple TV is a separate input device – switching to/from it is added complexity.

Well I hope that Ted Williams video was worth the 350 bucks for the revue. And what you’re talking about is different than my example. I was using the “Kevin bacon” example, where it gives you results from all different sources. Unless you were searching for “homeless American idol” this doesn’t quite mean the same thing. Besides, I bet you had a phone in your pocket you could have looked up the same video with way before you spent too much on the revue

You’re right, your google tv does stream your media, through the DLNA protocol, which is what I mentioned is the best so far. But does it search your system all fancy like it does cable? Or you have to be in the media server app and trudge through your folder structure. That’s what I have to do on my blu-ray player. The difference is, I only spent 130 bucks on mine. The two functions are still completely separate from eachother, which is why it’s not worth the money just yet. But maybe with apps and a firmware update to streamline things even more, we’d have something awesome.
