You should have a choice at install time which engine is the preferred provider. Mine would be a single query with a duplicate search of both, or more.

Apple took an open source platform and in the end your paying for it. Historically, open always leads to a closed spinoff… Money puts food on the table, so this idealist mindset always is doomed to failure once $$$ comes into play.

As for the search engine providers, I find it useful to use both Bing and Google. Bing rewards points are fairly cool, as I occasionally get free stuff. The holiday pages on Bing actually had some decent cartoons this year, and they even poked fun at themselves, which I found refreshingly honest.

Google gets a HUGE amount of search traffic from FF users, and it was clearly a demand driven deal.

If it was an exorbitant amount, Google probably wouldn’t have offered to pay it.
