There were are only a handful of cites with T-Mobile 3G (hence the initial limited G1 launch)- and since they are on different frequencies than AT&T, 3G roaming really isn’t an option.

As for the complaints- you generally hear from the loud, unhappy customers. If Google starts getting into the 50% return rate for handsets, then we will know there is a problem… :)
