Rofl. Who pissed in your Wheaties this morning, or have you just been absent from current tech news for the past year. These suits are everywhere and target everyone. The fact that Apple licensed these patents just means that they didn’t want to bother with possibly being sued sometime in the future. It doesn’t mean the patents actually had any value.

I’d seriously doubt they ever even head of these. This isn’t normal “IP” as we’d tend to think of it, these are just umbrella patents over general processes and ideas.
Regardless, the “trample” argument is juvenile. There is an obvious tend in simply making money through exploiting patent litigation and this is a classic case of exactly that.

why the enemies of android it always says ”patent blah blah blah ..”, if they actually use a patent owned by android in their devices and google have never disputed that. they should be ashamed!. but it turns out no,they had no shame

Given Apple has already bought licences and patents from BT, maybe Google should stop the infringemnets. I would have a different view if Android was truly open source.

Apple and Microsoft have probably licensed it already, unlike Google, the company that tramples the IP of other companies and expects them to sit down, shut up and take it.

Wonderful, another pay us because are profits have been tanking for the past two years software patent lawsuit. After looking at a few of these so-called patents I am just that much more disgusted with software patents.

The Manning 1 patent is for “A navigation system which includes a fixed part and at least one mobile part that provides guidance information to a user”. So by the logic of that patent BT asserts that it owns all rights to the action of a tablet, phone, laptop or other mobile device connecting to a server, home computer, etc, for the purpose of providing information relating to navigation, location, traffic information, etc, to a user. Absolutely f**king ridiculous.

This is extremely broad and I’m really not sure how these are specific to Google since ios and Windows phone 7 would all have features that fall directly under this gigantic patent umbrella.
It seems like a very opportunistic money-grab. One would guess that they were approached by a clever, greedy law firm or consultant who came up with this scheme to try and leverage some funds out of their patent portfolio, since it seems to be the in-thing in business at the moment.
It’d be interesting to find out who’s really behind this action.
