Google Street View now offering tours of the Galapagos Islands

Google first began talking about taking Street View to the Galapagos Islands back in May. This work was being done in partnership with Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) and the Galapagos National Parks Directorate (GNPD). At the time Google had said this work was being done in an effort to "continue to study and preserve the islands' unique biodiversity" and that the images would be available later in the year.

Well, flash forward back to the present day and this is now live and available for everyone to take a virtual tour. You are now able to explore these isolated volcanic islands that many would otherwise never get a chance to visit. The islands were made famous by Charles Darwin.

Perhaps key though, you can now tour and see animals that are only found on these islands without even leaving the comfort of your home. It was said that the islands are home to "hundreds" of endemic wildlife species that aren't found anywhere else on earth. Some of these include the Galapagos Sea Lion, Blue Footed Booby, Galapagos Giant Tortoise and the Galapagos Marine Iguana.

Anyway, that all being said, those ready to check out the islands now have to decide which path they will take — the 360 degree panoramic images, one of the informational videos or simply wandering around using Street View. Or perhaps better would be combining a mix of everything available.

Make sure to head to the Google Street View page for the Galapagos Islands using the link below. And otherwise, while we would expect it to take some time before you get bored of touring around the islands, keep in mind that Google has recently added some other tours including one of the zoo and one of the Eiffel Tower.
