Google Talk already has most of these. It has group chat and video calling. File sharing is only supported on the pc version. All they really need to do is support file sharing in the mobile and browser version (that might be tricky) to provide a continuous experience wherever it is being used. Add recieved/read notifications, and location sharing. Then, if google wants to effectively kill the competition, make this functionality available to its IOS and Blackberry applications (If they can, the platforms might not provide this kind of access but a nice anticompetitive lawsuit can solve that) and open up the platform to non gmail email addresses like msn. This would be the ultimate player in the space. A client that works with any email, on any platform, consistently. This would benefit google huge too as it would give them user data (their bread and butter) on users that don't use gmail. They can slowly begin to migrate users over to gmail after this by adding additional features for gmail users later.
