Google OnHub WiFi router adds guest network feature

Google's OnHub, the attractive WiFi router that recently got a makeover, has received a new update that (finally) brings a guest network option. With the feature, it is easier for guests to hop on your WiFi network, but you'll have more control over what they can do, such as what devices can be accessed through it. The feature is available via the Google On mobile app.

The update is a simple but very welcomed one, allowing Google OnHub owners to exert a little more control over their home WiFi. Everyone uses the Internet, of course, and that includes while at friends' homes. You may not want to give them unfettered access to the network, however, and that's where a Guest network comes in...something OnHub has notably, and to the detriment of owners, been lacking.

OnHub owners will need to update the Google On to version 7647.72.0 or higher to get the feature, and can then follow the instructions presented in the app to get it set up. Users will be able to name the guest network and apply a password, which can of course be different than the password on your main network.

If desired, the guest network can also be given specific access to devices, blocking access to other network devices you may not want guests to see. For example, you could make wireless speakers available for others to stream music, but could block access to your home network printer.
