Exactly! Asus has a 250 quadcore tab, which I would kill for, releasing soon, but supposedly Google is making that the Nexus tab. They want theirs in the 149-199 range though..... I say cut memory and other smaller things and keep the quadcore! Or just keep it at 250 and cut the memory but add a front facing camera

"Right, except that you don't have to upgrade hardware to update
software. And while Apple does software updates as well, they don't let

hardware..."

I hope your not including the current crop of Android manufacturers in that argument because they abandon their hardware twice as fast as they can make it. Go see the 'expansive' list of current devices slated for ICS upgrade. They certainly don't outnumber the pissed off Android device owners who realize their device will be forever doomed to Gingerbread or earlier OS unless they wanna cough up another 500 between now and when Jellybean rolls out and they get to do it all over again.

And I don't consider somebody cooking up a ROM for a single Android device an official release of any kind and any kind of support afterwards is a complete roll of the dice.

I currently have 3 Android devices and will be buying my time with them for the time being. When Windows 8 tablets roll out, I suspect enough people will be tired of the Android merry-go-round of no updates and forgotten models to banish Android from their lives and send it to the confines of Linux Land's fragmentation-fest with the rest of the pet projects like SuSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu and the 1,001 other variants that don't interoperate.

"Apple is the only player that can sit on a tablet for a year without updating it.
Lets see google do that with theirs."

LOL There's Android devices still on Froyo. Android manufacturers are undisputed kings of not updating, much to the chargin of their users. And people are learning what those cheaper prices gets you - like stuck on the aforementioned Froyo. Google is making its own tablet because its sick of manufacturers bullsh*t and if that makes them more Apple-like in getting OS upgrades out to the users, so be it. Because many Android users are sick of the BS with manufacturers too, and the security risks being 3 versions behind exposes you to.

Google didn't start that store. It's an initiative by Telstra (a telco provider) and it is nothing more than some shiny new banners and plastic android puppets. The most ironic thing: 1 meter next to 'android world' there is massive propaganda for the iPhone 4S; sold in the same store. (ps. I've been there)

Nexus phones come out once an year and they have stuck to that motif. I don't think that Google would change now.
Right, except that you don't have to upgrade hardware to update software. And while Apple does software updates as well, they don't let you use the cool new things (siri) without having to buy the new hardware... I'm sure my Galaxy Nexus will be able to run Jelly Bean to its fullest potential (unless there is some truly innovative breakthrough in hardware) can you say the same about iPhone 4s and the new iOS (most likely no, based on them locking Siri down).

Plus, the whole idea of the Nexus line is to showcase their operating system. They usually have some latest/greatest specs (720 resolution) mixed with available current hardware (NFC, dual core processors, 5MP camera. Whether they sell their Nexuses or Samsung sells their tablets, Google is still winning.

I think the Nexus strategy isn't to make the shiniest, most powerful device - it's to showcase the latest in Android and inspire OEM's to create bigger and better thereby spreading Android out even further.

For tablets, and many, many, many people have said this - content is king. Without access to games, movies and music the tablet is just a very expensive paperweight

Lets see google do that with theirs.

If Google is planning on releasing this kind of device they are going to have to do LOT better job of marketing and public relations. Thus gar google has relied largely on word of mouth for its Nexus products, with very little advertising. Google hardly pushes the pure google experience and if you have a customer related issue with an Android device (even if it is a Nexus one), you have to either deal with a vendor (who rarely knows much about the device) or dig online for the information. apple on the other hand makes it so that you can call and ask for help or just walk into an apple store hand have them fix any issue you might have (as well as teach you how to get to know your device better). That aspect of the ownership experience trumps sheer power or capability for a very large number of people. I love my Galaxy nexus and have a Transformer prime on order and this lack of detailed customer service is an annoyance that I've learned to live with, but don't necessarily enjoy. I suspect that users who are not as interested in learning for themselves would soon get frustrated with problems and end up running into apple's hands (much like my wife did).

I'm not having problems with my Nexus. Granted, the first day when I giddy and using it all the time, I had to charge it twice during the day. But now, a couple of days later, I am back to just moderate use, it has better battery life than my Droid, which I had bough a brand new battery for two months ago. The Nexus lasts me all day (and yes, that's with 4G turned on).
