Google Music integrates Songza suggestions to crush Beats

This week the folks behind Google Music's acquisition of Songza have let it be known that Songza has officially joined the party. They've been a part of the Google company for a while now, but just this week they're appearing in the Google Music app for the first time. Just like Rdio did with TastemakerX, Google did with Songza, adding a new layer of interest to their music service. With this boost comes Songza's "concierge" music feature, the piece of the puzzle that tells you what's best to listen to at what time of the day.

No matter the activity you're taking part in, Google Music will now be able to give you suggestions for what music to play. Just like Beats Music, this system works with professional music lovers, makers, and every sort of odd associate in-between. Music Experts, says Google, including "dozens of DJs, musicians, music critics, and ethnomusicologists" are onboard to make playlists.

Every station Google Music will be serving up will be crafted song-by-song by a real human being.

This new update will be available this afternoon for Google Music subscribers in the United States and Canada for Android, iOS, and web consoles. The redesign element – the look, that is – will be available around the world.

The look, by the way, is living inside Google's Material Design universe. This fits in well with Google's newest release of Android 5.0 Lollipop and the whole rest of the official Google design aesthetic.
