Google Mobile Phone Service tipped in Fiber bid

In a roll-out similar to Google's Fiber internet release, the company is suggested this week to be bringing their own mobile device business to the United States. One rumor is that Google will be competing with the likes of Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, the company would release their own coverage areas throughout North America. Another angle suggests that Google will ride with a company like Verizon as an MVNO.

An MVNO is a mobile virtual network operator, working with a company like Verizon (for example) to utilize their network for Google's own, smaller brand. Tips today sent in to The Information suggest that Google contacted Verizon earlier this year with suggestion that they would like to step aboard as MVNO in the near future.

This would have big implications for the brand butting up against Apple. As it is now, Google is working with the operating system, the ecosystem, and the hardware – creating smartphones with 3rd party manufacturers under close supervision with their Nexus line.

Google would grab a major upper-hand if they were also able to offer their own wireless service as well, turning all cash from a consumer inward, rather than rolling around 3rd party collaborators.
