You’re right, but Apple does handicap third party apps a lot, tbh. Sure, you can install all sorts of software from the App Store, but there’s no way of having your preferred app override iOS default selections.

One of the reasons I do not like ios devices is that apple decides what you can have. In Android you can say open x application as default. The bad fruit says you have no choice.

While Google is not being ostracized from iOS, it is certainly being pushed out. The app will be available in the app store, but it won’t be the default. If you tap on an address in iOS it will show it to you in the native map app and not in Google Maps, even if you have the app installed. In android, you can easily set this default but Apple does not provide this kind of option, thus favoring its own apps over any other option.

What kind of rubbish is this? Maps isn’t being stripped from iOS, it’s just no longer being maintained by people that don’t know what the hell they’re doing. Control of Maps on iOS is being reverted to Google, so rather than having it built in to the O/S, it will be available to all in the App Store. You guys make it sound like Google is being ostracized from iOS.
