It’s a bit like making the postal services responsible when illegal substances are sent through the post or a rental storage company responsible for the content of the customers storage boxes. Completely illogical. This is a clear demonstrate that the German legal system is clueless and that the entertainment industry has far to much influence. For once the US approach is definitely more reasonable.

This would have implications beyond Youtube and Facebook. Basically any textbox on the internet has potential to hold the owner of the website that uses it accountable for whatever was typed in this input control. This is just an insane idea. You cant have everyone who owns a website reviewing and editing every byte that is sent to their servers considering that there is a good chance you might not even be aware that such content is copyrighted. The internet as we know it would completely vanish.

At least Google would have deniability(not that they should have been held accountable in the first place). “We tried to remove the problem completely but person X went through proxy. If you want us to avoid the problem then stop your people from using proxies.” Would stick the government with a massive waste of time and money.

Say good bye to free/ad supported internet Germany. If youtube is going to be held accountable then the other sites won’t be far behind. Enjoy backlogged tweets from several weeks ago, facebook taking a month to post something, and you can just forget about wikipedia. Eventually it’ll just be too much work for all of them to keep up with and they’ll have to charge you for access so they can hire someone to make sure you aren’t doing something bad.

On Justintv, in the entertainment section there is tons and tons of illegal DMCA content. I never hear anyone complain about that site. Are they above the law or whats going on? RIght now, 4 channels of Star Trek, and horror movies with nudity and violence.

I would like to say that I have spent HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS of dollars on music, because I stumbled across them via Youtube or Spotify.

I’m not the only one. Tons of my friends, neighbors, co-wokers, family have bought hundreds of dollars on music, because of this.

What was floating around….? People who “pirate” music ended up buying the most…?

I’m gonna simply put, it’s gonna hurt you. I wouldn’t have picked that album up, along with a lot of other people If your music was NOT on spotify or Youtube. You don’t want your stuff on either, you’re just going to end up hurting yourself.

The Content ID system needs to be removed completely! Why? Many DDR videos have been targeted with false Content ID matches from Sony Music Entertainment (SME). Konami owns the music, not SME!

The solution is simple. Just block YouTube from Deutschland IP addresses. I’m surprised they don’t hold car manufacturers and dealers responsible when drivers are cited for reckless driving, too.
