My guess is that people are just casually turning it on though… I’m also guessing that google isn’t expecting to literally compete with FB in the remotely short term, but is probably focused on bring all the google bits into one thing, and google+ be the glue for the hub of all your google thingies.  

Personally. I think my google+ has been flashing a number over there for months now.  I never go to it unless I’m updating my profile or something.
