There were 3 stages of invites as I remember:

- Original ultra limited invites
- From these ultra limited invites, they could invite anyone else, gmail, hotmail, any kind of email addresses.
- Google closed out all other domain email addresses and only allow gmail to go through
- *Current stage* All invites are closed, including gmail accesses.
