Cramming everything from the processor to the battery into the glasses will make them a bit front heavy, though... The better solution is to have them connect wireless to a smartphone in your pocket or better yet, have a more sophisticated construction like pairing the glasses in the picture with an over-the-ears headset like the Motorola BH503 - then you wouldn't have to worry about them dropping when you look down...

Ultimately, this is the direction computers will go, with the ultimate goal of becoming fully integrated into our minds. It's the only logical direction that computing can go, since the real purpose of computers is to aid humans process/store/recall/communicate information.

Hopefully these devices will be open to customisation the same way desktop computers are, with the ability to run any OS, attach extra devices to them (new input/output devices for example), and with a fairly open OS designed to run on these devices which any software developer can create applications for.

If so, we may have a fantastic device on our hands.

If it's just a ad pumping device designed to be latched onto your head, so you can only see Google ads everywhere, with a few gimmicky features, then it's just a waste of time.

If it's just designed to be a 'cool' fashionable product to own as a social status, then it's just a waste of time too.

If it's a device with only a few 'fancy' input means, just for the sake of being 'fancy' (voice input only for example), that's not designed for power users who need to able to work quickly, then it's just a waste of time too.

... on the plus side, it'd make watching porn on a train pretty easy. <:3 It'd do what headphones did for audio, but for video. You'd be able to enjoy whatever audio/video you want without anyone having to see it, in public!

Infact!.. I'd prefer it if these devices didn't have an OS or any form of computing functions. I'd be more useful if they were just basically glasses, with 2 screens in each lens, and headphones for listening to audio, and microphone for voice input (maybe inner-lens micro-cameras to track eye movement/blinking for cursor/touch control). All that, plus some form of high speed wireless to communicate with the device from another device (for example, smartphone, laptop, netbook, computer, etc). Maybe using some high speed bluetooth or something crazy like that.. that would be fantastic! We don't really need another OS/computer. Just basically headphones, but for video as well as audio. :D

Last month with all of the software patent nonsense going around, I thought, "so what's a smartphone?" It's a small computer with a built in screen now, not that different really. And how would artificially limiting a patent for a device like that work with smart glasses or smart pants? And here, this month we find out that Google is working on smart glasses. In a way you know, they don't have to make the glasses, they could just invent the interface and be a patent troll. Nooooow let's see some Smart Pants!

Auto manufacturers can legally put head-up-displays in front of a driver. I can legally drive and use my phone with a headset or hands-free solution. How is this different? There is a potential for app developers to distract drivers with information that is not vehicle info-data, or navigation. I personally think media and phone functions should remain on the dash.

In other words; there may be heavy regulation imposed to define "what is acceptable information allowed to augment the driver of a motor vehicle?"

True.
I see so many people texting, or looking at their phones while driving. In one sense, at least they wouldn't have to take their eyes off the road with the glasses, but the distraction factor is a big concern.
I'd like to see what kind of results they would get from testing them under safe conditions.
In the end, you can't control what kinds of risks people take, or subject others to.

At first I thought this was a joke. It could be pretty cool if it works. My biggest concern would be with how badly people are already distracted, how unsafe would it be to have people running around behind the wheel with these things!? Heck, even walking with them on could cause accidents.

Very cool.

This could be the next big thing. I could imagine these glasses replacing a smart phone eventually.
If you could enable/disable the display quickly, and if you could adjust the tint level...why not wear them all the time.

Phone, music, gaming, gps, photography etc. If they get it right, these glasses could be very useful.

Where does the "eye-strain" FUD come from? I have actually experienced a prototype of this type product (from the company that supplies the actual display hardware used in this tech), the perceived focal distance and size of the display can be easily adjusted as per the preference of the wearer. I set the device to show me a virtual 60" display at 10ft focal distance. The point is; using the display on this product is as straining on the eyes as reading a street sign from 20feet away with sunglasses on. In fact I found viewing the virtual display allowed my eyes to stay focused on distant objects.

This seems like the platform for 3D augmented reality to me.

If we are not allowed to use our phone while driving, for safety reasons, why would we be able to view a monitor that is less than an inch away from our face streaming digital content to us?
Not gonna lie, if they looked just like that, could do Navigation while I'm driving, and had that Siri competitor they're working on, I would definitely go for it. Make this an extension of the smartphone, not a bluetooth/airplay type thing and I'll be first in line lol

Well, maybe first in line online, as there is no way I'm waiting in a line outside for a piece of electronic device lol
