I think that 5GB is plenty for most people. It doesn't include space taken up be Google Docs files or emails. I know that there are millions of people who are stupid enough to put their entire life of personal information of the likes of Facebook without thinking first about the consequences. I would never put all my private data on the cloud - only the data that I am using at a particular time or that I need to share. The rest I would either delete as soon as it becomes redundant, or transfer it to USB key or CD/DVD if I am likely to need it again. The same goes for a PC or laptop hard drive, since the same risk is there when you dispose of your PC, or if you have it stolen, except that there you may have traces of passwords, encryption keys or credit card numbers also saved. In this context.

If you need more than 5GB, you are probably a business, and you can probably afford to pay for it, and will probably need enterprise archiving solutions. Even in a business, if you let individuals accumulate more than 1GB of personal data without properly identifying its context and archiving it in a retrievable way on a server, you are asking for trouble.

Just one other point - Microsoft's online Office apps are also cut down versions of Microsoft's full (local hard drive installed) MS Office office apps. They actually have less functionality than Google Docs.

Google docs is primarily intended for mobile devices, shared documents, email attachments etc. It is way better than MS Office or LibreOffice for use on a mobile phone and perfectly adequate to produce the typical documents for sharing information that non-secretarial office staff produce. The additional complexity of full feature office suites like MS Office or Libre Office get in the way on mobile devices, and aren't required for the most part in non-secretarial work (apart from spreadsheets perhaps).

Secretarial staff need to use complex formatting, and features like mailmerge, and some accounting, engineering, and scientific staff need Excel compatibility and so do need MS Office, Libre Office, or one of the more sophisticated web office productivity apps to do what they require.

The Gmail is absolutely brilliant, and is the reason why most people who use Google Docs use Google Docs. Think of Docs as an improvement on MS Write for creating email attachments and for collaborative shared files, because I think that is what Google intends it to be. Google could have easily matched MS Office feature for feature by adopting an OpenOffice/LibreOffice variant, but that isn't what Google sells.

The Google drive will make Docs a lot more appealing, because it is now a network filesystem with simple file editing apps.and file sharing capability.

Only if they get popular games to run on this platform will it be adopted. Nobody likes to admit it but games are what most drive OS's. Production is mostly secondary. Just my opinion.
