Christopher J. I have one of these CR-48 machines. I wouldn't recommend it for most people as their sole machine, but I really wouldn't recommend a netbook to anyone as their sole machine.

To continue though it works. My other machine is a MacBook Pro 17". I keep files like my music and videos, etc on it. When working though I can edit documents online with my CR-48 and then jump on my Mac and those same documents are there. There also on my Ubuntu desktop machine or any other machine I jump on with internet access. For someone in school or working with documents and the web this machine is perfect portable. Even though it only has an Atom processor it runs fast and boots from completely off extremely fast. It has wireless connectivity to aways be online. As long as it's connected to the internet it can do nearly anything I need to do. It's not a total replacement for my main machine, but to be honest, I haven't even turned on my Mac since I got my CR-48 in. I don't believe Chrome OS will replace a regular computer and take away you're creativity, but for netbooks for people who do everything online it is a perfect fit. I can do everything I need on this machine 95% of the time.

I have applied for the pilot testing program and received this notebook. It's very similar to a MacBook Pro and does have a 16GB solid state HDD so your files are hosted locally. How could they not be? The OS is based on a Linux Kernel.

Why take the aspect of files off of a laptop? This OS will ruin software development for software hobbyists. This destroys privacy and also the innovative ability of its users. Its great that a linux based OS is getting some light but web-based development is something not all people want to do and until ChromeOS gets some filesystem aspects instead of just the cloud I, and many other customers will not purchase any machines with this OS built into it. Your taking our creativity away.
