Open Chrome and then hit CTRL + W. Reopen Chrome and it should work just fine. Don’t close out Chrome by hitting ALT + F4 or the red X at the top right. Only use CTRL + W and you won’t get any errors.

When the error comes up, press ctrl+w, this will exit the page, when you reopen it, it will work like it should. Just keep closing it with ctrl+w, not the red x, should work like normal. Of course, I discovered this AFTER I uninstalled and reinstalled, so my bookmarks are gone. Yay for Firefox.

I’ve had this issue since yesterday! It started with limited access to a few websites like hotmail and tumblr, but then when I woke up this morning couldn’t access anything. I deleted chrome and then reinstalled it and it was fine, but the moment I closed my laptop and opened it again the problem was back! So frustrating!!

It has been more than 12 hours since I noticed the problem. They not only failed to test before release, they also failed not pushed a solution even if it’s just restore to previous version to get folks going. Google’s handling of the mess is a complete failure. I am sure they love to hear praises about how well they do certain things, but it’s criticisms on how they screwed up help them improve their crappy way of doing things.

This happens on Win7 x64 boxes as soon as you upgrade Google Chrome to their wonderful new version 18 through the Google Chome About Box. Chrome was probably working fine for you until you did, because you saw the release news about a super new great version 18 of Chrome out now that enabled GPU acceleration now by default. Unfortuantly in their haste to rush it out the door, they did so with this SSL certificate bug in it.

Another way to prevent this from happening is to use CTRL + W to close the last tab instead of hitting the red X to close the program. Doing this method does not generate a txt file.

Also having issues with just about any SSL secure log in.

A temporary fix is to go to your Chrome directory after closing chrome:
C:Users&USER&AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data

And delete the file:
chrome_shutdown_ms.txt

When you start Chrome up again, it will work again until you close it again. Then you’ll have to go delete the txt file before opening Chrome.

Its so anoying… one way to fix this is to open chrome, open task manager and manually kill the chrome process. then when you reopen chrome, it will allow the google services.
