How, pray tell, would Google count activations for phones that don't use its services? In fact they explicitly do not count Android phones that don't use Gmail, Android Market and the like.

Oh, and that iPhone knockoff is beating it in just about every market around the world, two to one in some cases. The most popular Android device is the Samsung Galaxy S/Galaxy S II, both of which were top-of-the-line phones when they were released - a long way from freebie phones, which is more than I can say for the iPhone 3GS, the most magical phone in the world circa 2009.

Just remember: if your battery dies or you drop a call, try moving your hand around. You're probably holding it wrong.

Google lies about activation numbers.
They count upgrades as new activations even if it is an existing device.
They also count Android forks like Baidu phones that use no Google services which Google sees no revenue from as new activations.
Numbers don't mean much anyway. Revenue does and iOS is slaying Android in revenues. Not even close.
But what do you expect for an iPhone knockoff whose primary advantage is they are given away free or in BOGO deals.

Wow, it came so far to reach 100 Million and so quickly and now it has beaten that time period? Android doesn't just burns the competition, it blazes.
