100% correct. They are entitled to recoup costs on the Ridiculous statements of Doc Cockburn. If they spent 4 million on just that part of the case, I would imagine that total costs were closer to 30-40 million for both sides.

It all boils down to the core no matter which way you look at any lawsuit. Attorneys are bloodsuckers of society and we the USA has became the litigate country instead of product producing country. We have lost that edge because we churn out more of these blood suckers from university instead of engineers. China is opposite in this fact. What a shame for our country!

Google and stock holders should ask for the equal market capacity lost on each negative news article posted and resulted in lost market value of stock price that morning. This is an intentional damage that Oracle inflicted on Google.

I have mixed feelings about this. Both of these companies are huge corporations so they won’t miss $4 million. But, what if an individual sued a company and lost? Most likely, that person wouldn’t be able to pay the corporation’s legal fees. This really highlights a good reason for legal reforms! The greedy lawyers are screwing-up everything. A person with a grievance should have their day in court without going in huge debt or bankruptcy! Legal insurance is probably the next big thing after healthcare insurance finally gets decided.

Note: Google is not asking for, nor is legally entitled to “all the money it spent…”. Google spent far far far more money in defending against these charges than $4m. Far more.

They are, by law, allowed to recoup certain expenses, including costs related to replying to requests (document copies) from Oracle. Also note that close to $1m of the amount being sought is to pay for an independent expert retained by the court; for which both Oracle and Google are jointly held responsible. Due to the loss, Oracle now gets to pay for both halves of the bill.

These fees have to be audited by a professional legal auditing company in order to ascertain whether or not these fees are in compliance with uniform billing guidelines. These billing guidelines can either be the one’s that are used by Oracle or Google or those that have been established by litigated fee dispute cases.

Surprised it’s the same judge to decide this. Seems like it might be a coi since he’s already sided with Google. Don’t know much about this case, but I agree that if you sue someone and loose you should be responsible for paying the other person’s legal fees..

I’d say Oracle got off cheap. If it were me, I’d force that CEO of theirs to donate that island he just bought to charity or something.
