And the alternative would be the iPad which does the same thing? Actually the iPad is worse. they don’t allow another browser period. All MS is doing is preventing a browser from going on the desktop, which is only there for Office and IE and no other 3rd party apps period. If MS could have avoided it, they would have not included the destop at all

Actually they are talking about onlu WinRT on the classic desktop. Metro Chrome and FireFox browsers will run just fine.

Exactly. Unlike years ago, MS is the underdog in this Industry, and WAY behind Google. If they even try an anti-trust suit they will be laughed out of the courtroom.

Apple has somehow managed to maintain the popularity they had because they were the underdog while simultaneously becoming the biggest company and damn near close to monopoly on the planet. Chrome is heavily integrated into the operating system. It’s called Chromebook for a reason.

from what I understand the Windows 8 Tablets that use Intel x86 CPU’s and chipset will not have this Limitation since they can run 90% of Windows 7 desktop PC/Laptop programs. Both Microsoft and Apple who limit their tablets to use only one browser sooner or later could get fined by The European Union if they do not open their devices up to use other browsers. the international internet authorities could also get into this also. The EU forced Microsoft to change how they packaged Internet explorer in their PC OS before it looks like they will get another visit from the EU over this

While I can understand Mozilla complaining, Google doesn’t really have much standing. Does Google allow Firefox or IE to run on Chromebooks? No. Like Chromebooks, Windows RT is more similar to Chromebooks than to Windows 8. It’s basically a platform for running HTML5 apps.

When you log in to Windows 8 you are presented with the Metro Start screen, you can easily switch to the desktop and back. Doesn’t sound too forceful and they aren’t taking things away.

This is not anticompetitive, all Google and Mozilla have to do is write a Metro style app.
They are welcome to do so, all the information on how to do it is publicly available on the internet.

Microsoft is walking a dangerous line here. I like the idea of being able to use the classic Windows interface or the Metro, but if they’re going to weight things in favor of Metro to almost force people to use it, then that’s a big mistake.
