Yes the EV1 was a sweet car as the people who leased them will tell you. After GWB had the Fed threaten to stop highway payments to CA., if they didn't rescind their law requiring car makers to offer electric cars, GM collected and crushed all but one that is on display, minus it's drivetrain. At the time GM also bought into a new battery company(51%). After GMs' retrieval of the EV1, they also sold their share of the battery company to, who else?...an oil company, Texaco....Oh, yeah..the EV1 was a full size car and could go 90 miles on a charge and the guy who developed the new battery said it would enable the car to go 300+ miles.

We all are well aware gasoline powered cars are capable of catching fire after a crash. That said, I'm awaiting the results of the investigation but it doesn't affect how I look at the Volt. I would buy one but my commute is 60 miles one way so I'm waiting for the technology to get better. I'm tired of seeing the price of gas increase 10% from morning to afternoon. To me, that is crap. This is coming from a motorhead who owns 400 and 500HP cars. Oh yeah, my daily driver "GM crap" Impala has over 200k miles and it's just starting to get broken in.

Typical GM hater. They aren't building junk, stupid. If that was the case, your Toyota was making the worst junk possible - since those cars seeming take off on their own.

This is pretty ridiculous. To me seems like GM doesn't believe in their own electric car -- AGAIN! (Remember the amazing EV1 they completely pulled the plug on? That thing was sweet, and had all kinds of potential.)

Electric vehicles are quite safe, and fuel costs are currently about 1/5 that of a gas-powered car. Let's get to driving them already and start saving money.

I must object to the fake logic of the following--One of the tested Volts started smoking and sparking immediately after crash testing, presumably making depowering impossible in such instances.
I have a problem with this bit o logic that assumes that damaged batteries/connections makes "depowering" impossible--anyone with a bit O knowledge knows better-------Shane needs to reason things out a bit before feeding the Oil industry yet another victim.
