You know, I just don’t know what to say about this. I know I’m not the only one thinking “Glow-in-the-dark kittens. Really? No, seriously, really?” I just wonder, what could possibly be the good of this outcome.
South Korean scientists say that by playing for fluorescent protein genes in cloned cats it could be useful in helping unravel mysteries of around 250 different genetic diseases. Oh, and cloning kittens could also be useful in helping to clone larger cats like the tiger or leopards that are near extinction.
Sounds reasonable enough I suppose, but do we really need to make them glow? Way to take something cute and cuddly and turn it into something weird and down right scary! Someone call Stephen King, I have an idea for his next book.

I think that it is so cool about the glowing cats. I love cats they are my favorite animal. When I saw one the news about the glowing cats, I wanted one right away. But I know my mom want let me have one. So what did you scientists do to get to this point that you made glowing kitties?

The reason they use the Red Florescent marker is that it is very easy to determine if the gene is present and active within the cloned cell. It is a standard and easily manipulated gene to insert in Cell biology.
