I am waiting for an upgrade to my Galaxy S for ages now. I do not believe that they will release an update. My next phone will definetely not a SAMSUNG. I am and will also advice my friends against buying Samsung products.

My advice to people still considering buying the Samsung Galaxy S, get one from resellers which sells them with good deals but unlocked to all networks and no carrier branded firmwares.
That will really save you a great deal of money and head aches waiting for updates!

HTC aren’t exactly the best either, my first Android handset was a T-Mobile G2 Touch/HTC Hero which came with 1.5 it took at least 6 months for that to get 2.1, I ended up rooting it and putting a custom rom on it instead, which was based on 2.1 ported from an HTC Eris…and then sold it.

i am in uae and waiting for 2.2.1 update…. which was promised in Jan….. i dont think i will see 2.3 till july by then all phones might be going for 2.4!!! shame on samsung…. next phone will be anything but a samsung

Samfirmware is not the official site. they (Samfirmware) only has access on most of the leaked/official firmwares released by Samsung.

BTW. I download my firmwares at Samfirmware. I’m now using the 2.2.1 XWJS5 firmware.

That’s not samsung’s site….it’s a third party. Samsung only distribute official firmware through their Kies platform. Read the disclaimers for more info…

Samsung is more than friendly with customers.
All updates are downloadable at http://www.samfirmware.com/firmwares.htm.
European countries have different access but very funny ;
if u install your KIES in deutch you have all the updates available ??

Launcherpro doesn’t get rid of touchwiz. It only changes the launcher aspect.

Vanilla android would have a lot of things missing.

Hope that it is stable version of 2.3 as currently 2.2.1 got me headache that it reset itself twice and it is now freeze itself, I will have to do hard factory reset again.

Calendar (a lot better then stock)
Clock (a lot better then stock)
Calculator
SMS
Email
Widgets
And a lot of crap I’ve forgotten

Glad you like the phone, but you should realize that TouchWiz is NOT DLNA, Video, Camera, Player, Swype… TouchWiz is purely the launcher. You can use any launcher you want on the phone (I use LauncherPRO), and still benefit from the Samsung apps you describe as being your reason for liking TouchWiz.

As for believing anything this company says – that ship sailed when they failed AGAIN after promising for the fifth time to release Froyo 2.2 in Europe. I do LOVE the phone though – and in order to get the patches and fixes I’ve turned to the modding community.

Long story short: LOVE the hardware. HATE the company.

samsung also confirmed 2.2.1 update for galaxy s in december but still not there……..i thnk 2.3 will also rollout in june or july……………..

I disagree with the article preferring Stock Gingerbread over TouchWiz. I own the Euro Galaxy S and owned the Nexus S(sold it). TouchWiz is superior to stock in MANY ways: built-in DLNA, best video player on a portable device (AVI, DIVX/XVid, etc ), better camera app, better music player, Swype on board, better stock keyboard, better calendar, MS Exchange support, better menu system, controls on the notification drawer, volume control on lock…too many too mention. I’ll take TouchWiz over stock any day – even one version behind. I use LauncherPro on stock or TouchWiz, so that is neutral.
