George R.R. Martin on board with 'Captain Cosmos' HBO series

The television series Game of Thrones will be heading into its sixth season next year, and fans had clamored about it, fearing that it would introduce parts of the series story that haven't yet been published. That fear has been put to rest, and Martin has promised to increase his focus on finishing "The Winds of Winter", the sixth installment in the book series. That doesn't mean he'll be spending all of his time working on that, however, and thusly enters the upcoming HBO series "Captain Cosmos".

A few days ago, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that George R.R. Martin, the man behind the book series, is developing a new television series with HBO, and that its potential name is "Captain Cosmos". The folks at Ars Technica say they've received confirmation that such is indeed the show's title.

The series will be set 1949 and will revolve around a "young science fiction writer" living at the dawn of the television age. That writer — the fictional one — is said to toil away writing stories that no other authors are willing to write, but nothing else about it has been detailed. Martin is serving in some sort of development role, but it doesn't look like he'll be doing any writing, and it is promised his involvement won't take up too much of his time.

The sci-fi series is only in the early stages of development, according to various reports, and the pilot episode is being written by Michael Cassutt with whom some will be familiar due to his work on SyFy's "Z Nation".
