Really, 16,000 are in operation? Hard to believe there are that many. GE has only produced 15,000 turbines total. Mostly of the 1.5MW. I think you should recheck your facts.

The volume of innaccuracies in this article is staggering. GE has 16,000+ 1.5MW turbines in operation. This 4.1MW turbine is based on the architecture they acquired from ScanWind in 2009, which was a 3.5MW turbine with a radial direct drive permanent magnet generator. The 1.5MW turbine has a three stage gearbox with an induction generator.
