Gateway today announced a sleek desktop PC called The One that looks equally (or more) attractive than the new iMac. I personally think the One is a long lost brother of the new iMac.

Gateway One - Sleek All-in-one desktop

Gateway One design resembles characteristics of Apple iMac with its slot-loading side mounted DVD burners and the connectors such as three USB ports, one FireWire, and audio in/out. Wall mounting kit is also available to allow consumer to mount the system on the wall.

Gateway One - Sleek All-in-one desktop

Gateway offers “One” in three standard configurations. The One features Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor ranging from 1.5Ghz T5250 up to 2.0Ghz T7250. As for GPU it uses ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 chip. Like iMac, the One comes equipped with 1.3-megapixel webcam. As far as pricing goes, it will start at $1300 upwards.

No information regarding availability date yet, Gateway only indicates that the system will be available soon.

It is all about personal taste. Not everyone thinks cheese is good right?

The large unused space below the LCD is what kills it for me. I thought the iMac had too much unused space but this just made me think how much nicer the iMac is. While I don’t hate it, I just don’t think it is a good competitor to the iMac. The iMac is cheaper and faster than this thing but it is a nice start for Gateway.

Quite honestly this is much better than the MAC offerings.
Best part though is it is not an Apple! I refuse to give money to that company.

    @Kurt: You are damn right!

Although the iMac entry Model only has the HD2400 Graphics Card inside, starting at $1.199,
I have to say the $199 extra, on top of the Gateway Pricetag, receiving a faster Processor, maybe also a bit more Harddrive Space and same Graphicscard are well spent money when you think of Dual Boot Capability, able to run MacOSX and Windows on an iMac.

And it is takes much less space, while it floats in the air, with some space underneath to place the Keyboard underneath, while not needed is especially for those small Dorm Desks and big plus.

This is a very nice system. the price in the article is suggested retail, you can find better prices “on the street”, unlike the way Apple price fixes. Very fast and sleek.

No matter how you spin it, it’s just another PC vendor imitating an obviously popular design. It’s still PC parts on the inside people… Lipstick on a pig…

Besides, why would you ever spend money on a PC when the hardware is simply the cheapest parts they could get in mass quantity put into a pretty box.

Apple has a history of building fine pieces of machinery, with cost proportional to design. Motherboard, memory, video, chipsets and the like don’t change from week to week like most other vendors who again are just parting systems together with the largest quantity of cheap parts they could get.

Apple’s iMac offering is much higher quality, cost effective and can run MS Windows if you don’t prefer OS X (which is far superior, and only causes MS to imitate as well).

Now, look at Apple as an investment. Show me a PC with a good resell value. I sell every Mac I have ever owned a good 1, 2 or even 3 years later and can walk in with that cash plus 3 - 5 bills and walk out with the brand new current revision.

Essentially every 2 years spending a few hundred dollars and you are always using a top of the line machine.

PC people, spend that every year and end up with piles of useless junk.

Okay, thats enough food for the haters. ;-)

What worthless pile of poo. I agree with LoMo. Now I have a PC just for gaming but am Mac for ALL other situations. My G4 powerbook still holds at least half if not more than it original purchase price. A PC never holds its value. This “one” gets attention now but will soon be forgotten. Mac users never forget thier machines and hold fond memories of every past one. This is something a PC manufacture will never have, a loyal fan base.

Wow, pretty killer computer, I have seen some computers like this they are really cool. But isn’t Gateway like evaporating out of the computer industry?
