For the record, aside from what may or may not be true about the business practices of Microsoft, or Novell, or Random Inc., just because a boat has been made, and another company comes along and makes a boat with a motor, the second company has not stolen the idea of the first, only improved it, making the new idea unique. People take ideas from people all the time, and so many ideas have been had at this point in human history that there are very rarely completely unique ideas anymore.

Now as far as the claims Novell made back in the 90s that their product was 'more popular', or for that matter any claim of such, is just plain bullshit and holds no water in terms of establishing an anti-trust claim. I for one use Word, and have for most of my life, and have found it to be the superior product when compared to all other word processors that I've used. If a product sells more, or becomes more popular because it is superior, then let it be. Now I understand that the arguments are probably more nuanced than that with regard to the actual Microsoft case, but speaking generally, that's how I feel it should be.

Yeah, there's copying in the sense of building from an existing foundation, and then there is just plain ripping off. In the former, value is added, and the thing copied is so transformed that it becomes original, like an architect building off the style of a predecessor. In the latter, we have pretty much an attempt to rip off something not to build on and improve it, but merely to emulate and in so doing, taking a piece of the pie. Apple is the former. MS is the latter, though they may both be called 'copying'... then it just becomes semantics: Words being twisted to prove something based upon false logic rather than being used to defend logic.

Steve Jobs claimed Microsoft never created anything, only stole from other people. MS claims it developed the Android OS and sells licences for its use. MS will even sell you a license for Open Source software in general, claiming you need it or they will sue you. The company has gone insane. MS has become a huge boat anchor, stifling innovation. Someone has to stop them.
