Well apple has thrown millions upon millions in advertising and attempting to break that market and in particular for the last decade they've gone at it pretty aggressively. For all that money and work they have gained less than half of 1 percent market share. Thats why they have stopped all those "hi I'm a pc" commercials. Its a losing proposition for apple. And with apple's image having peaked and now losing some of the magical luster and appeal (and still they haven't broken pass 6% market share in desktops and even worse when only talking about work OS shares), I really don't see apple making a dent on the enterprise market.

Fair point, but there are federal regulations as to how secure certain data needs to be and iOS devices simply don't make the cut. And depending on the encryption levels it could be nearly impossible to crack the data. You can get the data but not decrypt it per se.

not to mention there is no encryption in iOS. Anyone with sensitive data needs to steer clear of those devices. One iPad with sensitive data gets lost and you've got huge problems.

I honestly think that google has a better shot than apple. iOS devices do not provide any access to the file system and force you to manage files through glorified music software. I have iPads at my work and they are a nightmare to work with. Google on the other hand has a very versatile platform that is missing only a few security features that keep it from being a powerhouse in enterprise.

Ha!!! not a freakin chance! people keep forgetting that Microsoft's hold on Enterprise isn't merely about the end user systems like Windows workstations. Microsoft along with UNIX owns the entire server based environment with Active Directory, Exchange, Sharepoint, SCCM/SCOM, etx... Apple isn't even close to being in the same neighborhood of taking MS on in those areas.

What this article is really saying is that as BYOD becomes more popular and Apple consumer shares continue to grow, so will the END USER presence of Apple in Enterprise.

What Gartner is also forgetting is that the adoption of Apple products largely depends on how well they work with those Microsoft and UNIX systems. For example, the first iPhone was a compete joke in Enterprise. CEO's kept whinning "wah wah I want an iPhone!" but it never happened because an IMAP only email system open to the world is ridiculous. It took Apple caving and licensing ActiveSync from MS for iOS that really brought the iPhone and iPad into enterprise.
