Garmin Dash Cam offers wide-angle HD and automatic incident detection

Among Garmin's various navigation-related products introduced here at CES 2014, the company has rolled out the red carpet for its new Garmin Dash Cam, a dashboard camera for cars that offers, among other things, automatic incidence detection. The camera has a variety of functionality for drivers who want a constant recording of their driving activities, and as such provides an extra layer of security in the unfortunate event of a collision or other incident. The camera has wide-angle recording and can record in either WVGA, 720p, and 1080p HD. The camera comes with an included 4GB micro SD card, but the feature supporting up to 32GB. There's a G-Sensor that allows the car to detect hard braking and other scenarios and save the recordings during, proceeding, and right after the detected incident. The recording video is timestamped and stamped with the location where it was recorded, so there's no doubt about when and exactly where something took place. There's a 2.3-inch display for reviewing video, as well as a suction cup mount and a power cable. The camera can also be manually handled and used to take snapshots, such as in the case of a car accident one wants to document. The camera will retail for $220 USB without GPS, and $250 USD with GPS.Said Garmin's Vice President of Worldwide Sales Dan Bartel: "Gamin Dash Cam is like a personal eyewitness that never misses an incident and provides proof of what happens on the road. It is fully automated and gives drivers peace of mind knowing any events that might occur will be captured. Features such as an internal microphone and GPS add valuable context to the video files."
