GammaTech Durabook S15AB crams Broadwell U CPUs into a rugged chassis

GammaTech has unveiled its latest ruggedized notebook computer that is aimed at mobile workers, governments, and automotive industry users. The machine is called the S15AB and it has a 15.6-inch LCD with full HD resolution. Buyers can choose from Intel Broadwell U series CPUs and up to 16GB of memory.

The Intel Broadwell U line of processors is a one-chip solution with HD graphics engine integrated and low 15W power consumption. Less power consumption for the CPU means better battery life. The CPU also supports Intel vPro tech for security needs.

The chassis of the notebook is made from magnesium alloy and is 20 times stronger than a plastic case. With that rugged chassis, the machine meets MIL-STD 810G for vibration resistance. Keyboard, keypad, buttons, and indicators on the machine are also spill resistant.

The machine is also rated for dust resistance to IP-5X and features a web cam with mic, capacitive touch pad with gesture support, and has an integrated smart card reader. Buyers can opt for an internal wireless modem and storage is up to 1TB with a standard HDD or 512GB via SSD. The machine also has a supermulti optical drive and a battery pack good for up to 8.5 hours of use, pricing starts at $1999.99.
