I’d like to believe this…but I’m sure you’ve bought new games plenty of times. Gaming is not cheap, it costs a lot of money to develop and market. If you want cheaper prices, buy shittier games (which you say you already do, that’s fine). However, don’t complain about high priced games. Your not being forced to pay for them.

I hate when people come in to my GameStop and complain about the trade prices. Esspecially when a game that is 4 years old is brought in and it is worth $1. What do you honestly expect? The game is friggin 4 years old!!! New release “big” titles will give up to $35 for up to 3 months after release. And people still want to complain!! You just played the game for 3 months and got more than 50% of your money back. If you were to rent the game you would have paid upward of $100 to rent it for that long. People are just dumb…

A bit off topic, but has MS ever said they’d name the next xbox, even temporarily, “720″? Pretty terrible name for the console, about the worst I’ve ever heard! We can only hope more creative heads prevail and they come up with a name that sounds like it took more than 10 seconds of thought!

That’s fine if you are not in a lower income bracket. the rest of us cannot afford new games much, and, our children get bored with the same game over and over. This gives them incentive to do chores, in exchange for going to trade in their current games for a “new” game.

Why would in not be tied to you account. Just like DLC now, if you buy a new console, you don’t lose stuff attached to that account.

First off, hasn’t Microsoft denied that this is their plan anyway?

Even if they did decide to do it this way, I would have very little doubt they would do it the way they do the XBLA games now… The game is tied to your user ID, and the original console it’s downloaded to. If you sign in somewhere else, you can play it. If someone else is on your console, they can play it.

People are seriously considering buying another console? The last gen Xbox was outdated when it came out. To keep ahead Sony had to take a bath on theirs. After launch the deluge of crappy games ensured my last console purchase. Good luck with these new wastes of money.

So, by extension, you’d also be glad that this will hurt all of the ‘Mom and Pop’ type game stores out there whose bread and butter are the used games they sell? You’ll be happy when they’e forced to shut their doors and stand on the unemployment line while GameStop powers on with their new games, accessories, online market and game related merchandise?

Because that’s essentially what you’re saying when you get down to who will really suffer if such a plan took effect.

Just because you don’t like one company’s business model, doesn’t mean you should demonize a whole section, many of whom are barley making it as it is.

Except tying to the console could be through the account. It’s all still rumors but there are more than one way for them to do it.

The system could be registered to the account and thus use a system and account lock, but that can be updated through the account.

Alternatively, they could just give the option to de-register… Like with Adobe Photoshop, you can only officially install in 2-3 systems at a time but you can de-register and uninstall to then move it to another system. So limit could only be number of systems it can run on at any one time.

All depends if they want to prevent the re-sale of games or just cut down on pirated copies…

While another alternative is putting a time period until when you could install the game on another system.

Better value is very arguable at best, tablet gaming doesn’t provide the level of gaming as dedicated and more powerful gaming solutions. The main reason touch screen gaming is growing is because of convenience and just sheer number of touch screen devices being used.

While you still face similar limitations that if you change devices that in many cases you’ll have to repurchase the apps for each device and you’re more likely to replace a tablet regularly than a game console or PC.

I think it’s a nonsense rumor, in part because Gamestop and other buy-back retailers would have an antitrust lawsuit on Microsoft faster than you can say Halo, but mainly because if the 720 is going to require an internet connection (which it most likely will) then any form of hardware-based lockout is automatically redundant due to the fact that the registration code can be authorized and deauthorized as the retail disk changes hands. By and large, there’s simply no sense in coding a permanent account-based lockout when the authorization/deauthorization process is just as easy, just as secure, and more consumer friendly, working equally well for both buyers and borrowers. I would like to think that not even Microsoft is that evil.

Those updates are usually a game patch or as you said, achievements.

The tech is already there, they use it for the DLC’s, it’s just a question of expanding it to the game’s serial numbers themselves, and how far Microsoft wants to shoot themselves in the foot.

Gamestop isn’t the only used game store around however. I can get ‘new’ titles (as in recently released) for half off at my local shop ($15 instead of $30 or $60), thus getting more entertainment for what little money I have.

Trade the titles back in when I decide I don’t want them anymore and instant cash flow into the next set of games. I spent a whole year without using actual money for video games and always had a nice stack to play with, something Amazon can’t compete with.

How come Valve’s Steam style business can work successfully on PC but can’t work on XBox?

The Problem is that Microsoft doesn’t tell you that those are the tatics they will use. In fact, everything points to New software that they can block and control, baring you from using old games as well. In a perfect would Live ID would work, but Microsfts reputation is MONEY First and consumers somewhere near the end.
