I dunno. It seems to me that the 3DS relies less on gimmicks than the DS did. The 3DS's analog stick feels better than the original PSP's and the 3D screen seems to be just for fun. I don't know of any game that utilizes it as part of its core gameplay the way so many DS games were focused on the touch screen (and devolved into the same tap-fest garbage you see on phones now).

I think the future looks bright for both consoles.

But that's my point. A special version has been announced. The thing has as much horsepower as a console, give it the same games as a console. It's these proprietary game versions that will make it fail.

It's a portable playstation3, it needs to play playstation 3 quality games. I would gladly buy one if it integrated perfectly with the existing PS3 community

I think the issue with the 3DS was it was 250 with a lackluster launch line up. On top of that the Vita appeals to someone like myself, a guy who plays games on phone but also enjoys a more traditional gaming experience.

As long as they keep expectations reasonable I'm sure the hand held can see decent returns.

I think it would do well if it would include HUGE titles, like Call of Duty, Brothers in Arms, God of War etc. And I mean FULL games, not half-assed socom like the original had. It has the dual analog sticks now, so without some huge market titles, I think it will fail miserably, especially since it is for some reason being released after the holidays.

I think it would be frackin sweet to have 4G, walk around playing the Modern Warfare 3 with my friend on his 360. This is 2011, and 2012 soon, advance the tech, don't half-ass it.

Uhhh... UFC Personal Trainer. UFC. Personal. Trainer. This studio is for reals. Sony needs to deeply consider the opinions of this juggernaut of a studio or they're screwed.

Maybe the 3DS failed because it sucked ass and relied too much on a crappy gimmick. Vita looks bad-ass. All they need is a God of War and I'm in for one.

The odd part is, I'd buy one if I knew that I could get Macross: Ace Frontier on it.

BTW, Heavy Iron Studios is a BIG player, not some fly by night dev, but they pretty XBOX-centric. This may just be a marketing ploy to make themselves look better in the eyes of MS. They make one PSP game and two PS3 games.

I have been reading alot of posts lately about the challenges companies with face trying to sell new gaming systems, and how the consumers are interested in mulit-functional devices. I think the problem we are seeing now, is too many devices doing the same thing over and over. We want all of our devices to do as much as possible and the one with the most capabilities seems to be the one that wins the dollar. Cellphones now have the ability to do things that we used to have to rely on multiple items to do. and since almost everyone has a cellphone with them at all times, the logical choice is to keep adding features to that device. It plays games, music, movies, takes photos, stores files, send and recieves email, has a planner, etc. 20 years ago most of these functions required a seperate device. The technological world is headed towards a universal device that will replace all others, and right now the need for a portable gaming system is becoming obsolete. Everything these days from refridgerators to televisions seems to have a WiFi connection, an lcd screen, a list of apps, or a hard drive. With the economy being in the state that it is in, consumers need to get as much functionality out of a single device to make it worth the price. buying a tablet, laptop, cellphone, gaming console, and portable gaming console just seems foolish when one can offer many of the capabilites of the others combined in a single unit.
