I along with many Macbook Pro owners have been without broadband like connection thanks to the new ExpressCard port. Should I (or you) run out like a mad person and purchase the V640 ExpressCard from Verizon? Well the answer to totally depends on whether you can make good use of $59.99 per month service fee as well as an up front charge of $99 for the card. You should also keep in mind that you’ll have to sign a two-year contract with Verizon.
Thanks to Gear Live’s recent review, the decision to take the plunge does seem worth it. Why? For one, it’s easy to setup and use. Two, the broadband like speed; where Verizon’s EVDO service is almost available in every major city. Gear Live managed to achieve a real-world downstream speed 370kbps and increased to 448kbps as they got near downtown Seattle. Upstream speed was slower clocked at 114kbps. The V640 card was given a 9/10 rating – very high. I wonder why it didn’t get a 10? |
