I have to say I’m more than surprised that despite the increasing evidence on the net about these problems that the reviews are not being amended, nor are the editors of such reviews challenging Samsung. Shocking.

I guess Samsung must be inadated with this problem hence my email answered,
but never followed up. So I rang and finally moved a step closer to solving
this “Oilslick” problem

All I have to do is simply take the unit into a retailer near me and they
will send it off for inspection. Customer servce did reconize the problem as
“Newton Rings” (after a few line transfers)

Great…I thought however, I wish I could feel a sense of relief but it
seems all I have to look forward to is waiting for weeks of repairs and
replacements and no closer to using a gift that I was so happy about receiving.

I just wish Samsung could have prevented this.

I feel so dejected about this I have simply given up….for the time being anyway! I guess I’ll just accept that my tab has a funny screen and occasionally freezes..but I WONT be buying anything from Samsung ever again, that’s for sure! Learnt my lesson!

sorry danny cant reply directly to your other comment below, yes have been reading a lot about these problems and seen qutie a few people trying to get an answer from samsung with no luck. final nail in the coffin for me as not only does this product look a dud but if the makers arent happy to sort out their mess im definately not bothering.. am just looking around for the cheapest ipad now, definately not getting the galaxy after all this rubbish. hope you manage to get somewhere soon :(

This is almost getting funny now. I have heard that you can ‘put a hairdryer’ on the problem. What a load of cr*p. Samsung are definitely swerving the problem.

i have tried to get some sense from the samsung customer service line. Tried explaining about my ‘oil slick’ issues and i found the lady very defensive and unhelpful.

Massively dissapointed with Samsung Customer Service – I was advised to do the factory reset which hasn’t worked. Tech advisor didn’t really suggest anything else. Anyone got any other news? Not up for sending it off for a service.

Did anyone return their Galaxy Tab 10.1 due to
a design fault…the “oil slick” / “Newton Rings”?

As mine was a wedding gift and have since
travelled leaving friends with the receipt.

Can I take it to any dealer and they will recognize
this problem?

The email I received last week as not been
followed up by Samsung:

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

We understand that there is a oil slick
underneath the tab and the tab is not exposed to any extreme weather.

We are sorry, to hear that the tab is having
the issue

Please check if the issue is persisting on all
applications. If you are able to view the oil slick even if the tab is

turned off the tab requires a service.

If you are not able to view the oil slick when
the tab is turned off, please perform a hard ware reset.

Samsung Philippines have admitted that there is
a problem.

What do I do now?

tetris? noo way thats a classic. it would do my head in. i dont actually have the tablet, so no have not had the oil slick problem but i have been seeing a lot of news about it so i dont think your alone. i had been really interested in getting one for myself next week when i get paid but so far all i seem to read is problems so im probably going to steer well clear unless samsung provide some kind of fix..and quick. any news from them, have you asked?

Amy, I have been having problems when gaming, in Angry Birds and also Tetris…so annoying!!! Also, a thing that lloks like an oil slick or a smudge appears on the screen. Have you had that?

see i am big on games, its what i want a tab for. other people have said its just the maps and youtube that are freezing but is this true that the touchbug is alos affecting games apps? bad news for me if it does. let me know if you find a fix.

Jade I don’t think you will have any problem with the battery life on the Galaxy 10.1. It’s sleek and light, however I am finding the screen becomes unresponsive when playing simple games! I’m not big on games, however now and then like to escape, but just seem to sit there swiping my finger over the screen and nothing happening!
I hope its just me…but have a serious look into the matter before you settle on this one.

I’m still having the same ‘touchbug’ issue with mine. Not only that but fuild ‘leaking’ under the touchscreen and won’t go away. Emailed Samsung but no response yet.

Feeling pretty sh*tty about this whole thing now. Would rather have my money back and look eslewhere or come back when these issues are fixed.

If you want something with all the specs and none of the performance the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is for you. Massive issue with the ‘touchbug’ that samsung don’t seem to want to resolve.

Wow mixed feelings…

I’m looking for an android tablet that i can always carry around with me so the sleek look and lightweight design is defiantly a huge plus…. However….

It doesn’t sync up with a mac? I need something that will connect up to both my mac at home and all computers in uni – Is there a way around this?
Battery and Charger problems? Seeing as I want to carry this tablet around with me all the time, am i going to struggle with the battery life?

Trying to work out if this is the tablet for me? Do the other tablets on the market have just as many problems?

i,ve been very unhappy with my galaxy tab…It doesn’t seem to charge properly, i’ve been finding it very difficult to play games due to screen freezing and the instructions that came with it have not given me any more of an idea about the functionality of the Item. I thought id take a chance on this item because im not a sheep and getting an Ipad was an obvious option. Now i’m starting to regret that choice :(

I’ve been having a lot of problems with mine I’m sorry to say. I got it last week and the charger is already not working(but as it is made out of 4 parts I’m not really surprised!). It wont charge with USB on anything other than my playstation but takes about 16 hours.
I have been having screenfreeze problems on the googlemaps and also cannot scroll trhough timelines on youtube or iplayer.
I was going to get the Asus transformer and I’m thinking of trying to get a refund so I can do that.

Yes in this case I would do the same. Here in Switzerland, when we buy a new divice we usually have a so called Guarantee and the shop where you bought it will take it back within one year. During this time it will show, the same happened with my mobile. But of course, if you don’t have that, I would also not take the risk.

i see what you mean……..but what happens if you get one that works to start with but then 2 months later, it starts going wrong? its too late to return it to the shop and your stuck with a unit that doesnt work, and end up having to call expensive tech numbers to try and get it sorted. and i hear samsung tech is not very good either. not such an appealing idea, my iphone has never gone wrong so im tempted to stick to the reliable option. or just wait a bit longer to see if this turns out to just be some bug that they can fix with an update maybe.

No one of my friends have the tab, we all have the phone but experiencing the same problems with the screen, it is just not responding and most of the time when I use Bluetooth. Then I have to switch it off, turn of Bluetooth and then it works.
So there are freinds who have the same phone or even the Galaxy II and don’t have the same problems and some have it like me.
I think it does not matter for what you use it. There is either a flaw or not. I also want to buy a tab as I also find it much coller than the iPad and that is prooven in all the tests I saw. So if I get one, I will just give it back if it doesn’t work until I have one which is working. :-) :-)
I will do the same now with my phone as my sister has the same and it is working really fine.
So I think if you think the Galaxy tab is cooler, then go for it but don’t keep it if it is not working. Give it back until you have one which is working.
It is their problem not ours. :-)

do your friends use their galaxy for games? im really struggling to work out if this is better than ipad2 or not…lot of reviews and comments i keep reading lately seem to conflict….sooo hard to know these days what to buy. i remember days when you would see an advert, think its cool and go and buy it…now with all these online reviews, comments and stuff its a whole new level of decision making!! the android robot is definately cooler than an apple, though, lol.. but seriously i need something that works at the end of the day….

I have the same problem with the phone. But not all of my friends have that problem and those who have the Galaxy II don’t seem to have it.
So apparently you got an item with a flaw. Give it back Karl, they have to give you a new one. It is too expensive to just accept that it is not working.

After reading your review and falling for all the hype
surrounding this product, I went out and bought myself one. I don’t have a
particular need for a tablet computer but I decided to treat myself (and at £500,
it’s some treat). After a couple of hours playing and getting to grips with it,
I started to notice a very irritating problem – at times the touch screen will
become completely unresponsive, usually for 5-10 seconds.

Playing simple games for example, as soon as the game
becomes intense, almost on cue the touch screen stops responding and you’re
just sitting there uselessly swiping your finger over it.

Problem with the app you might think? Well no because this
has happened continuously and regularly with several different apps and games,
including Google Maps. In this case the touch screen will stall and become
unresponsive for 5-10 seconds, before force closing the app.

This is a SERIOUS bug, and yet I see no mention of it in this
review whatsoever? It’s very annoying to see someone endorse a product when
it’s main feature (the touch screen) clearly has a major in built flaw. I’ve
never had this issue with Google Maps (or other apps) on any of my smart phones
or other touch screen devices. I think If you’d given the product a thorough
testing you would have noticed this bug the same as I did.

It’s extremely disappointing and highly frustrating to buy
something on the basis of what you think
is a reliable review and then find out you’ve basically been fleeced for £500
for a product with an obvious and serious bug, which now I can do nothing
about.

I’m left with a very frustrating, glitchy, unreliable
product in regards to both hardware and/or software that doesn’t perform to
anywhere near the standard that’s suggested here. I would advise anyone else
reading this who is thinking of spending their money on the Samsung Galaxy Tab
10.1 to look elsewhere, or prepare to be disappointed.
