Yeah, I own an HD2, which packs a 4.3 inch screen. It’s very pocketable, and the added screen size is great for touch screens. I think I might even get a slightly bigger screen for my next phone, but 4.3 is great.

But seriously, I had that worry about getting my Galaxy S2 (4.3″ screen), and having had it for about 2 months now, it hasn’t been a problem. The real problem is thickness, and the GS2 is crazy thing. Like literally, how-can-it-be-so-thin-and-still-kick-ass crazy thin!

Okay, I am exaggerating a little, but the truth is that the laws of physics still apply to technology companies. And the way that they continue to push up the speed of the processors and increase the size of the displays while making them thinner and lighter something has to give.

As for the camera. Well, the same thing applies. Yeah, the larger number of pixels sounds nice at first blush, but anyone who is even remotely serious about digital photography knows that raw pixel count is not the biggest factor in picture quality. In fact, a large pixel count often means a larger pixel density which increases noise. Now, increasing the size of the sensor will help with this issue, but increasing the size of sensor also means that the phone will need more glass for the lens, or it will have to drop the max aperture, which will affect low light shooting. Then assuming that ALL of these issues are resolved there is the other elephant in the room where large pixel count pictures are concerned: storage space. So, your phone can now store even less photos then it could before, and doing anything with them over a cell service will cost you even more, since they are larger.

Not that I am saying that this is necessarily bad, but this idiotic race to try and be the best based purely on some tech spec numbers does not necessarily mean that this phone will be better than the Galaxy S II.

I currently use a Galaxy 1 (Samsung Fascinate), and with a 4″ screen, it really pushes it when trying to carry it in a pants pocket. If they increase it to 4.6 inches, it will simply be too large – I don’t want to carry a tablet in my pants!
