Lower compression ratio for video may give better results in some situations (video with lots of motion), however it will take more space for the same recorded time. And if the camera stabilizer works well, there might not be the need for higher bitrates for most videos made by a phone.
There should be an external optional lens to attach to S3 with optical image stabilizer ;)
What if there was the possibility of adjusting the bitrate on-the-fly during the recording with an onscreen slider?
I'd like to see also a 4k video resolution mode that could use Full resolution in a user defined selected area of 10% of image and the rest of image could double pixels to capture just 1080p in borders ;)

Indeed - apologies. my comment was off on a tangent. I'm a static image guy not a video recorder and these "tricks" are common on scientific imaging devices. I'm happy to admit I'm completely wrong in this instance

And this is achieved how? 8Mpix camera, is the mod accessing a larger surface of the chip? Is it using a dithering technique a la some scientific cameras? If so, doesn't that affect the vignetting and/or the speed of video and also the pic quality due to lowered number of photons per element?
Just because it's possible - doesn't mean that it is a Nokia pureview competitor...
