Galaxy J1 2016 slips quietly into Dubai retail outlets

Samsung has quietly launched the 2016 version of the Galaxy J1 smartphone. The device launched in Dubai with no formal announcement and is now available in several outlets for purchase. The Galaxy J1 was the subject of speculation and leaks in late December. No more leaks are needed since all the details are offered along with the launch of the phone.

The J1 is a budget device that has a 4.5-inch display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution and Super AMOLED technology. It has a quad-core chip inside that runs at 1.3GHz and while that chip isn't singled out, it's thought to be an Exynos 3475 SoC.

The smartphone has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of integrated storage. The main camera is a scant 5MP resolution with the front camera offering 2MP resolution. Power for the smartphone comes from a 2050 mAh internal battery. The J1 does support LTE connectivity in base form, something that its predecessor did not support unless you bought an up level version.

Pricing for the phone is AED 499, which is about $135 in the US. The phone appears to come in both black or gold versions. It's certainly a base handset, the features aren't that grand but shoppers on a budget might find it appealing.
