like i said that’s the only thing going for nokia maps. As for other features it has nothing on google maps.

It is a MAJOR problem when you venture out of range of your provider – they do have 100% global coverage, don’t they? And no roaming charges too?

Odd behavior with Archos 5 (Android 1.6) and Dolphin browser: redirected to a rather static map of Berlin (as in Deutschland), and no way I could see to specify anywhere else such as US East Coast where I am. I guess it needs Android newer than 1.6 for HTML5 support?

I’m sorry but the only good thing about Nokia maps is being able to access it offline and i own a n8. Apart from that nokia and google maps are both good but google edges it slightly. Most smartphone users have internet access on their phones so being able to access the maps offline isn’t a big deal for some.

Just checked it out with some local maps (Spain). Maps about two years out of date, routing suggestions really bad.

If you were a regular user of Nokia Maps, you wouldn’t have used the words “could potentially rival Google Maps” – Nokia Maps is much, much better already. If you were referring to accessibility, as the HTML5 web-app will make this available for almost everyone, then that is a different thing.
