Froyo extends Android lead as legacy versions dwindle

Google has outed its latest batch of Android platform distribution stats, based on the in-the-wild devices accessing the Android Market over the most recent fourteen days. According to the numbers, Android 2.2 Froyo continues to hold the top share, on 57.6-percent of active devices (up from 43.4-percent in December), while sub-2.1 versions of Android have shrunk almost to 10-percent.

The news isn't quite so hot at the other extreme, with Gingerbread only scraping together a mere 0.8-percent distribution. Still, given that right now only the Nexus S has Android 2.3 officially, that's no great surprise.
