FreedomPop adds free monthly calls and texts on top of data

Back in June, we reported that FreedomPop was planning to add free calls and texts on top of free data, something that would result in a complete phone plan sans price tag. That time has come, with FreedomPop now offering a complete monthly subscription at no charge, giving users a decent number of texts and minutes per month on top of data, as well as a low-cost for-pay option for those who need more.

As of today, those who live in supported areas can grab a cheap refurbished phone from FreedomPop, getting a no-cost monthly plan to go along with it. Under the free option, subscribers can get 500 text per month, 200 minutes per month, and 500MB of mobile data. For those who want unlimited texts and calls, they can pay $10.99 per month, boosting the service. Likewise, FreedomPop offers a variety of for-pay data plans to get more data.

For 4G only, the data limit can be boosted to 1GB for $9.99 per month, with options ranging up to 10GB per month for $59.99. Tossing 3G data into the mix in addition to 4G, 500MB is $3.99, with prices going up to $89.99 per month for 10GB. There's also a home data plan option, in which 5GB, 10GB (3x) and 10GB (8x) options are priced at $9.99, $14.99, and $18.99 respectively.

For the free cell phone service, one will need to buy an HTC Evo from FreedomPop, which is priced at $99 USD. For that price, one would get a handset that supports WiMAX, offering a 1.2GHz processor, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 b/g/n, a 5MP rear camera, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. As you might have guessed, the 4G offering is WiMAX, not LTE.
