Foxconn hands control of worker dorms to property management group

Foxconn has been having a very difficult year despite all of its success. The difficulty comes in the rash of suicides that has seen ten workers die this year alone. Because of the suicides, Foxconn gave significant pay raises to workers.

One of the rumors that surfaced recently was that Foxconn might be closing its Chinese factories altogether. Digital Trends reports that Foxconn has now handed control of its worker dorms over to a property management group.

Foxconn has 153 dorms that house over 450,000 workers. Under the new management groups, the workers would now be charged rent. However, Foxconn will reportedly be offering a housing stipend. Whether or not that stipend will cover all of the rent is unknown.
