The old way of timer-shutter, the photographer sets the timer, rush as fast as he could to fit in the group, hold on his breath and smile… Beep and snap. FotoNation, a leading provider of embedded imaging solutions for the imaging industry, has a much clever way of doing this by integrating their face-detection technology,’FaceTracker’, with the conventional self-timer feature.

FotoNation ‘Facetime’ is a new type of automatic shutter trigger system that will wait on additional face to appear on scene before initiating the self timer. It provides additional time as much as the photographer prefers before getting in the scene without an additional wire or costly wireless trigger. I have a feeling that we’ll see Facetime become a common feature like Image stabilizer or Face recognition in the next generation of digital camera. It’s rather useful to self portrait and group shoot photo session.
