Fossil Q Founder appears on Google Store, not yet for sale

The fusion of fashion and technology is finally starting to ramp up. Aside from the super expensive timepieces such as the TAG Heuer Connected and Apple's own Apple Watch Edition, a few brands that you wouldn't normally associate with tech are finally coming out in the open with a smartwatch of their own. One of those is Fossil, the accessory brand who just last month announced a couple of new wearable devices, among which is the Android Wear Q Founder, which has found its way to Google Store.

Beating TAG Heuer's own smartwatch by half a month, the Fossil Q Founder now enjoys the distinction of being the first Android Wear smartwatch powered by an Intel Atom processor, a rarity in a wearable world filled with Qualcomm's chips. Aside from that internal hardware distinction, the Q Found also looks the part of a traditional watch while promising the advantages of smart technologies we have today.

Like many of its Android Wear contemporaries, the Q Founder doesn't carry a prohibitively expensive price tag. Only $275 to be exact. The smarwatch launched last week and was available from Fossil's online store. It seems, however, that soon it will also be available from Google's own online hardware marketplace.

The Google Store listing also reveals some more tech details about the smartwatch, like its 1 GB of RAM, again a rarity among smartwatches, and the 1.5-inch 360x326 circular screen. The reason for that non-square resolution? Seemingly the same flat tire that Motorola's Moto 360 smartwatches have been heavily criticized for.

At the moment, the Fossil Q Founder is still marked as Coming Soon on the Google Store, so the only way to get it is still directly from Fossil. No word yet on when sales will open up from Google, but its presence alone is enough of a "blessing". Whether Fossil will make yet another Android Wear smartwatch in the future is a bit uncertain at this point. It has just purchased wearable company Misfit, who has a wearable platform of its own.
